1) In what situations is Comfort Zone® suitable?

Comfort Zone® is ideal for warming towels, blankets or robes with no plastic or metal components. It is used by EMTs to assist in raising the body temperature of patients who are in shock or hypothermic. It helps with elderly patients who may have difficulty maintaining body temperature. Veterinarians also find it useful to soothe and calm animals both before and after surgery. The advantages that Comfort Zone® has over traditional electric blankets is that it is not susceptible to the “hot spots” that wired heating blankets can develop nor does it present the electrical hazards that wired heating blankets do.

2) Is Comfort Zone® UL approved?

Comfort Zone® is approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) under the United States and Canadian (CUL) standards for indoor appliances.

3) How hot do the warming plates get and can a person be burned by them?

The warming plates are controlled by a thermostat that regulates the heat between 155°F and 185°F (68°C to 85°C). Once heated, the plates are hot to the touch. The unit should not be left where a child or incapacitated person can be in contact with the plates while the unit is on. In addition to the thermostatically controlled heat, controls in both plates will disable the unit if the thermostats should fail.

4) I noticed some moisture had accumulated in the unit when it was first used, is that a problem?

The moisture comes from articles being warmed and does not affect the operation of the unit nor does it present a safety hazard. With the unit off, wipe any accumulated moisture up with a dry cloth.

5) What is the warranty?

Comfort Zone® may be returned for any reason within 30 days of purchase and is warranted to be free of defects in workmanship or materials for one year. Details of both the return policy and warranty are here.

6) How long does it take to warm up an item up in Comfort Zone®?

That depends on the environmental conditions. If the unit has been indoors, it will take as little as 20 minutes initially to warm a blanket. Once the unit is warm, additional items can be warmed in even less time. Warming times can be reduced substantially by opening the unit after 5 or 10 minutes and refolding the blanket and placing it back in the unit. However, often the units particularly those used by EMTs are left outside in a vehicle. If the unit is cold it may take much longer for the initial warm-up. That is because the unit itself absorbs much of the initial heat.

7) How long will an item stay warm in Comfort Zone® once the unit has been unplugged or turned off?

The unit is well insulated and will retain heat for up to 30 minutes even after it is turned off.

8) How warm do items get when placed in Comfort Zone®?

The unit operates between 155°F and 185°F. Blankets, towels, and robes that are placed in the unit will range in temperature from 110°F and 155°F after the full warm-up period.

9) What materials are safe to use in Comfort Zone®?

Any unadorned blanket, towel or robe that is made of cotton, polyester or a blend of the two fibers may be used in Comfort Zone®. Never place items that have buttons, zippers, or other plastic or metal components in Comfort Zone®.

10) What are the dimensions of Comfort Zone®?

11) How do you clean Comfort Zone®?

The unit should be turned off and allowed to cool. The plates can be wiped down with a cloth dampened with water or alcohol. Allow to dry completely before returning to use.

12) Is it safe to warm fluids in Comfort Zone®?

It is not safe to warm any fluids, including serum or IV fluids, in Comfort Zone®, for human use. The unit should only be used to warm unadorned textile products.

13) Can Comfort Zone® be left turned on for extended periods?

The unit is designed to accommodate extended usage. However, it does consume power while on, so it should be turned off if it will not be used for several hours. This will also extend the life of the unit as it will reduce the number of times that the thermostat cycles on and off.

14) What is the function of the button that is situated on the front of the case just below the handle?

That is a pressure relief valve that is incorporated into the Hardigg Storm Case and assures that that there is no build-up of either negative or positive air pressure while the case is in use.
